Founded in 1946, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is one of the most well-known humanitarian and developmental assistance organizations around the globe. Working in over 190 countries and territories, UNICEF focuses on citizens in their early adolescent and childhood years to save lives, defend rights, and fulfil promising potential.

Currently, UNICEF holds an Executive Board that consists of 36 elected Member States. With a mission statement under the guidance of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the 1959 General Assembly Declaration of the Rights of the Child, UNICEF has been active in the international community in terms of child protection and inclusion, child survival, accessible education, child emergencies, supply and logistics, and research and analysis.

UNICEF is a committee suited for seasoned delegates, but is open to challenge delegates of all experience levels. Position papers are strongly recommended for this committee, but are mandatory for delegates to be considered for awards. Please read about CAHSMUN’s Position Paper policy, which can be found under the list of committees on the “Committees” page.

Cindy Gao | Director

Embarking on her senior year at Little Flower Academy, Cindy is delighted to be serving as the Director of UNICEF at CAHSMUN 2019. After attending her first Model United Nations conference only two years ago, she instantly became intrigued with the Model UN world. Not just limited to Vancouver, she has also attended conferences in Santa Barbara, Honolulu, Madrid, and Tokyo to delegate. Cindy is eagerly awaiting this year’s iteration of the conference, and would like to invite all delegates to what she is certain will be yet another extraordinary committee this coming April. She is looking forward to meeting everyone!

Bridget Young | Chair

As a rising junior in her third year of Model United Nations, Bridget is more than excited to be the Chair of UNICEF. Ever since her first time delegating at a conference, she has grown to tolerate sleepless nights in exchange for a great Model UN experience. Model United Nations has helped Bridget enjoy public speaking and in turn make countless friends. When not immersed in a Model UN setting, Bridget loses sleep with her friends over a certain battle game or finds any excuse to eat at different dessert cafes. Bridget cannot wait to meet all of the delegates and would hope no less than for all to have an amazing CAHSMUN 2019!

Jimmy Ma | Chair

Entering Grade 11 at Port Moody Secondary, Jimmy is enthusiastic to serve as the Chair of UNICEF at CAHSMUN 2019. Since being introduced to Model United Nations in his Grade 9 year, Jimmy has developed an obsession for it. To Jimmy, MUN is not simply another extra-curricular. It has encouraged him to hone his public speaking abilities, researching skills, and has made him become an informed global citizen. Outside of MUN, he can be found dancing to K-Pop songs, impulsively buying things, clarifying his ethnicity, and emptying his wallet on food. Jimmy is excited for this opportunity to witness an unforgettable weekend.
