About Delegate Mentorship

What is Delegate Mentorship?

The Delegate Mentorship Program (DMP)* allows delegates with experience in MUN conferences to sign up as a “Mentor”. They will be paired up with less experienced delegates, known as “Mentees”, in the same committee. This allows for continual support and guidance during committee sessions, which is often lacking, as Staff members are only able to provide feedback at the end of committee sessions.

Why Apply?

Mentors in the Delegate Mentorship Program (DMP), available uniquely at CAHSMUN, will have the opportunity to build their leadership abilities and create connections with their respective Mentee, by ensuring their Mentee’s introduction to MUN is clear and comfortable, while acting as a personalized support system. The position acts as a formal bridging point between being a delegate and a Staff member, and will be acknowledged during any prospective application for a Staff or Secretariat position at future iterations of CAHSMUN, preparing those who wish to direct or staff their own committees in the future by offering a more extensive MUN delegating experience. The skills acquired through this program such as consultancy, communication, and professionalism can be easily applied to any position at a variety of other organizations and academic institutions.

For delegates looking to progress their delegate experience, the Delegate Mentorship Program is a novel, engaging experience of Model United Nations.

Mentees receive frequent, personalized guidance from experienced delegates in their committee, which can dramatically accelerate their learning in MUN procedures, resolution paper writing, and diplomatic skills. Asking Staff members questions and for feedback can often feel daunting, so this program alleviates that difficulty by pairing them with another delegate. This one-on-one attention allows Mentees to ask questions and receive feedback in a safe, supportive environment, boosting their confidence and helping them navigate the complexities of MUN conferences more effectively. Additionally, Mentees have the opportunity to build valuable connections within the MUN community through their Mentors, opening doors to future opportunities and collaborations.

For delegates who do not have a strong school club presence, the Delegate Mentorship Program is a safe and encouraging introduction to the world of Model United Nations.

*Delegates may indicate their interest in becoming either a Mentor or a Mentee on the Delegate Registration Form during their registration.
