The HOC is the lower house of the Parliament of Canada. Composed of 343 Members of Parliament, the HOC represents the Canadian population and plays a crucial role in the creation of laws. As representatives of specific geographical locations, they raise concerns of their constituents. Delegates will have the opportunity to engage with Canada’s national legislature. Because of the difference in Rules of Procedure, this committee will be unlike any other in the program.

HOC is a Regional Body, suitable for delegates of all skill levels regardless of experience. Both committee topics use Regular Rules of Procedure. Though not mandatory, position papers are highly recommended for all delegates, and are required to be considered for awards.

Questions, inquiries, and position papers for this committee can be emailed to hoc@cahsmun.org.

Alan Li | Director

A sophomore at St. George’s School, Alan is beyond ecstatic to serve as the Director of the House of Commons (HoC) at CAHSMUN 2026. Since opening his gateway to Model UN in grade 8, Alan fell in love with the fast-paced yet almost exhilarating environment of Model UN–the incredible debate within committee sessions, the joy of meeting new people, and even all the hours of lost sleep during conferences. From being stuck in Hyatt’s underground storage area to karaokeing at 3 am, Alan appreciates the multitude of memories that MUN granted him. Outside of the committee room, you can catch Alan exploring various restaurants and Boba places, debating, or spending hours scrolling in his bed. Alan is excited to welcome all his delegates to CAHSMUN 2026 and wishes all the delegates best of luck in their preparations for the upcoming parliamentary session!

Lavanya Bhatia | Chair

A senior at North Surrey Secondary, Lavanya is honoured to serve as a Chair for the House of Commons at CAHSMUN 2026. Lavanya's Model UN journey began in Grade 9, prompted by her curiosity of the world beyond her life. She soon realized how much more MUN was—quitting after her first conference only to join again upon the insistence of her upperclassmen. Since then, she has made a plethora of memories with her MUN routine: procrastinating, working, and socializing. Outside of the committee rooms, Lavanya can be found competing in business case competitions, exploring new food places with her sister, and attempting to play tennis. Lavanya looks forward to the sure-to-be memorable experience of CAHSMUN 2026 and wishes delegates luck!

Andy Huang | Chair

As a junior at St. John’s School, Andy is ecstatic to serve as the Chair of the Canadian House of Commons (HOC). He began his MUN journey on a whim two years ago and was rapidly captivated by the professional diplomacy and collaborative environment this activity has to offer. Every MUN conference is a challenge that has allowed him to develop as a leader, strengthen his communication skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the current global situation. As a delegate, he successfully overcame his fear of public speaking and also built enduring connections with other participants. Outside the conference room, he enjoys literature, playing video games, and consuming copious amounts of food. Andy looks forward to the 22nd iteration of CAHSMUN and knows that it will truly be an unforgettable experience for everyone.
